Record review: Luminous Monsters – Golden Scales, Blazing Plumage

Big, thick, analogue abrasion.

Loud, soaring, warm distortion.

It’s noise that’s full of optimism – it’s Luminous Monsters.

His new release Golden Scales, Blazing Plumage is awash with bright colours, and simply put, is one of the best instrumental records I’ve ever heard.

It may delve into darkness along the way, but it’s a record that’s strangely therapeutic.

A mix between ambient and post-rock, it sits neatly in that space labeled ‘background music’.

As such, it’s not music that you can actively listen to – there’s no melody or catchy hook.

Instead you have to let it weave in and around you.
