Describing themselves as purveyors of “smart casual indie pop,” wojtek the bear may just be down playing their own splendour a touch.
Subtle indie tones seep through the Glasgow four piece’s latest offering, which is a wonderfully melodic and meandering track.
The opening of ‘The Drunken Sailor’ has a real ethereal feel to it, gentle yet compelling a sharp lead guitar loop overlays a rhythmic strum and gentle drum beat introducing almost immediately lead singer Thomas Killean’s laid back vocal.
A cleverly observed narrative of wandering through life with no understanding how you got to where you are is furnished with an urgently delivered chorus driven by sublime drumming providing a spark of life to the track.
There is a real mature feel to this band, who clearly know the direction they are going in and have the quality and faith in their craft to deliver.
wojtek the bear are releasing their first EP in March with a new video to accompany it, with a slot in Celtic connections also secured they are definite ones to watch.
