The debut single from Glasgow-based Static Union ‘Turn Out The Lights’ is long overdue, after the band formed in 2014 while still at school.
They’ve been gigging extensively since then, which has clearly paid off in terms of their confidence and the fans they’ve gathered, as their single launch at Audio last month sold out.
‘Turn Out The Lights’ is a pacy slice of indie rock with bags of energy and a killer instrumental.
There’s a darkness to the song, most notably from Liam Adams’ intense bassline which kicks off the track and serves as a great build-up to the chorus’ climax.
Sean McGarvey’s distinctive voice keeps that edge, but adds a catchiness and more personality to the track.
With their confidence and an already established fan base, Static Union have the perfect foundation for success, though also a lot of pressure for their first EP; but they seem more than capable of rising to that pressure and delivering an impressive debut.
